Wasatch Front Storm Damage: Your Action Plan This Week
Last updated: September 24, 2026
The Northern Wasatch Front has been hit hard by a severe storm, leaving a trail of significant damage in its wake. Residents are waking up to the reality of wind-whipped debris, downed branches, and, for many, compromised roofing. As the immediate threat of the storm passes, the focus now shifts to assessment and action. This week, it's crucial for homeowners in affected areas to take practical steps to understand the impact on their properties, especially their roofs. Your first priority should be a visual inspection from the ground. Look for any obvious signs of damage such as missing shingles, damaged flashing around chimneys or vents, or debris lodged on your roof. If you see anything concerning, or if you suspect damage from strong winds or hail, it's time to consider a professional assessment. Safety is paramount. Do not attempt to climb onto your roof yourself, especially if you are not trained or equipped to do so. The risks of falling are significant, and further damage could be caused to an already weakened structure. Instead, focus on documenting any visible damage with photos or videos from a safe distance. This will be invaluable when you speak with roofing professionals. Also, check your home's gutters and downspouts for any blockages or damage, as these are often the first indicators of roof issues. This is the week to be proactive. Reach out to licensed and insured roofing professionals in your area. They have the expertise to conduct thorough inspections, identify hidden problems, and provide you with a clear understanding of the necessary repairs. Getting multiple opinions can also be beneficial. While the storm's impact is localized to the Wasatch Front, severe weather can strike anywhere. If you're in the Houston, Texas area and want to be prepared for the unexpected, or if you've noticed any potential issues with your roof after recent weather, we can help arrange a free inspection with a local, qualified professional.
